Do I need to bring my own balls?
No — 150 balls and a tube hopper come with every hire. Bring your racquet and you're set.
Why hire instead of buying one?
A new PongBot Pace S Pro costs about $1,850 before you've bought balls and a hopper. Hiring from $150 a day lets you train hard — or try before you buy — without the outlay, the storage or the upkeep. (Some people call it a ball launcher — same machine, same fun.)
I've never used a ball machine. Is it hard?
Not at all. You drive the Pace S Pro from the free PongBot app or the included remote — pick a preset drill and start hitting. Your hire includes a quick-start guide, we'll show you the basics at handover, and the Drills page tells you exactly what to set for each session.
Where can I use it?
Any tennis court — your local club, school courts or free community courts. There are plenty of public courts around West Lakes, Henley, Grange and the western suburbs.
How much is delivery?
$50–$75 each way for delivery and collection, depending on how far you are from West Lakes — so $100–$150 for the round trip. We'll confirm the exact price by text when you book. Pickup from West Lakes is always free.
How long does the battery last?
8+ hours of feeding per charge — more than a full day of sessions for most arms. It arrives fully charged, and the charger comes with every hire — plug it in overnight and go again.
How does paying work?
Send a booking request from the calendar — or just text us. We'll confirm availability by text and send a secure card link (PayID works too) for the $30 deposit, which comes off your total. The balance is card or cash at handover, plus a $300 refundable bond that comes straight back once the machine's checked over.
Is there a bond?
Yes — a $300 refundable bond at handover, returned in full within 24 hours of the machine coming back complete and undamaged. We'll also sight your photo ID (18+). The details live in the hire terms.
What if it rains?
Ball machines and wet courts don't mix. If the weather ruins your day, message us and we'll move your booking to another date, free.
The playbook
Drills for every level
Twelve sessions written for the PongBot Pace S Pro you're hiring. Each card shows the settings to dial in — feed rate, spin, placement and pace — a few taps in the app and you're hitting in under a minute. Work through a level, or mix one drill from each.
Beginner
Start here1 · Groove the Forehand
Goal: clean contact and a full follow-through, every single ball.
- Aim the machine at your forehand side, comfortable rally height.
- Hit 20 balls cross-court. Don't chase power — chase the same swing every time.
- Rest, collect, repeat three rounds.
Finish with the racquet over your opposite shoulder — exaggerate it early on.
2 · Backhand Builder
Goal: make the backhand feel as normal as the forehand.
- Same setup as drill 1, aimed at your backhand.
- 20 balls down the line, 20 cross-court.
- Turn your shoulders before the ball bounces on your side.
Struggling? Slow the feed to 8–10 seconds and reset your stance between balls.
3 · Two-Step Switch
Goal: footwork — split-step, hit, recover to the middle.
- Set a narrow sweep so balls alternate just left and right of centre.
- Alternate forehand, backhand, forehand — touching the centre mark between shots.
- Three rounds of 16 balls.
The drill is the recovery, not the shot. No drifting — get back to centre every time.
4 · Short Ball, Move In
Goal: stop fearing the short ball — move forward and lift it deep.
- Angle the machine down so balls land around the service line.
- Start at the baseline, move in, and drive the ball deep — then backpedal out.
- 20 balls forehand, 20 backhand.
Get low with your legs instead of dropping the racquet head.
Intermediate
Building match tools5 · Corner to Corner
Goal: hit a solid ball while moving — the shot that wins club matches.
- Full-width sweep, baseline to baseline.
- Every ball goes back cross-court, deep past the service line.
- Three rounds of 20 — the last five in each round tell the truth.
Shrink the sweep if you're arriving late; widen it as your legs wake up.
6 · Depth Targets
Goal: live rent-free in the back quarter of the court.
- Lay a towel (or your bag) flat in the back quarter, cross-court.
- 20 balls: count how many land beyond the service line. Score it.
- Beat your score each round — 14/20 is a good day.
Depth comes from net clearance — aim two racquet-lengths over the tape, not lower.
7 · Net Rush Volleys
Goal: quick hands and a firm wrist at the net.
- Stand a racquet-length inside the service line.
- Alternate forehand and backhand volleys — punch, don't swing.
- Three rounds of 15, stepping closer to the net each round.
If the balls beat you, lengthen the feed — speed comes after shape.
8 · Approach & Finish
Goal: turn a short ball into an approach shot and a volley winner.
- Set the two-depth sweep: one deep ball, one short.
- Rally the deep one, approach down the line on the short one, volley the next.
- Reset to the baseline and repeat — 10 sequences.
Approach down the line, cover the line — make the passing shot travel.
Advanced
Match pace9 · Random Chaos Defence
Goal: read late, move early — survive unpredictable pace.
- Random horizontal + vertical sweep at strong pace.
- Everything goes back deep down the middle — no heroes.
- Rounds of 20; stop the round when two balls in a row land short.
Split-step on every feed — the machine gives you a rhythm cue a real opponent won't.
10 · Heavy Topspin Attack
Goal: take the kicking, shoulder-high ball early and put it away.
- Max topspin and lift, so the ball kicks up around shoulder height.
- Round one: step back and rip with full topspin.
- Round two: hold the baseline and take it on the rise. 20 balls each.
On-the-rise contact happens in front of your hip — shorten the backswing to get there.
11 · Slice Neutraliser
Goal: stop donating points to low, skidding slice.
- Set backspin so balls stay low and skid through.
- Round one: drive through the ball with topspin, deep cross-court.
- Round two: answer slice with slice, keeping it under net height. 20 each.
Bend at the knees until your racquet hand is below the ball — reaching down is a frame waiting to happen.
12 · The 20-Ball Gauntlet
Goal: hold your technique together when your legs are gone.
- Wide sweep, quick feed: 20 balls flat out, full recovery between shots.
- Rest 90 seconds. Three sets.
- Score a point for every ball past the service line — track it across sets.
The set ends when your form does — sloppy reps train sloppy tennis.
The fine print, minus the fog
Hire terms & conditions
The full hire agreement in plain English — firm where it counts, fair everywhere else. Print it for signing at handover, or ask us to email you a copy with your booking.
The short version: be 18+, show photo ID, leave a $300 refundable bond, keep the machine dry, and bring everything back on time — and your bond comes straight back.
1. The agreement
The agreement starts when you pay the $30 booking deposit and ends when the kit is returned, checked and the bond released. Paying the deposit means you accept these terms.
2. The equipment
"The kit" means: one PongBot Pace S Pro tennis ball machine (serial no. ______________), remote control, battery charger, 150 tennis balls, tube ball hopper and quick-start guide. It's handed over charged, complete and in working order — the signature at the bottom confirms you've checked it with us at handover.
3. Hire period
The hire runs from handover to the return time in your booking confirmation (day hires: pickup from 7:30am, back by 8pm). Want longer? Ask before your return time and we'll extend it at the standard rates if it's free.
4. Fees & payment
Rates: $150 a day, $300 for three days, $550 for a week. The $30 deposit comes off your total. The balance is due before or at handover — card online, or cash. Delivery and collection are $50–$75 each way depending on distance from West Lakes, quoted and confirmed when you book.
5. The bond
A $300 refundable bond is payable at handover — cash, or a hold on your card so nothing is actually charged. It comes back in full within 24 hours of the kit returning on time, dry, complete and undamaged. If something's wrong, costs under these terms come out of the bond first — and the bond is not a cap on what you owe (clause 8). For some bookings we may ask for a higher bond; if so, we'll tell you before you pay your deposit.
6. Photo ID & who can hire
The hirer must be 18 or over and show current government photo ID (driver's licence, passport or proof-of-age card) matching the booking name at handover. We record the ID type and number against the booking and use it only as described in clause 12. No ID means no hire, and your deposit is refunded. The kit stays in your care for the whole hire — friends and family can hit with it, but you supervise, and you're responsible.
7. Looking after the kit
- Use it on proper tennis courts only.
- Keep it dry — no rain, sprinklers or wet courts. Ever.
- Never leave it unattended in public.
- Transport it upright and secured.
- Charge it only with the supplied charger.
- Don't open it up, modify it or attempt repairs. If something seems off, stop and call us straight away — a genuine fault is our problem, not yours.
8. Damage, loss & missing bits
From handover to return, the kit is in your care and you're responsible for it. Fair wear and tear is expected and fine. Beyond that, you're liable for repair costs, and for loss or theft up to full replacement value — a new PongBot Pace S Pro is about $1,850, and the complete kit is worth around $2,100. The bond is applied first; any shortfall is invoiced with receipts. The remote, hopper, charger and guide are part of the kit and come back too. We allow a couple of stray balls — more than 2 missing is $1 a ball.
9. Late returns
More than an hour past your return time without arranging it with us, and each started day is charged at the day rate ($150) — someone else is usually waiting on the machine. If the kit is 7 days overdue and we can't reach you, we'll treat it as lost: the full replacement value becomes payable and we may report it to SAPOL.
10. Cancellations & weather
Cancel 48 hours or more before pickup and your deposit is refunded in full — or move your date free. Inside 48 hours the deposit is held, unless we can re-book your dates. Washed out by weather? Reschedule free, any time before your pickup window.
11. Delivery & collection
Someone 18+ with the booking ID must be present at the agreed delivery and collection windows. If nobody's there, we'll rearrange — and the extra trip is charged at your delivery rate.
12. Your privacy
Your contact details and ID information are used only to run your hire (and to recover the kit if it isn't returned). We don't sell or share them, and we don't keep them longer than we need to.
13. Play safe
Never stand in front of the machine while it's switched on, pause the feed before collecting balls, and supervise kids on court. Tennis is a sport — normal sporting risk is yours, and you're responsible for anyone you let use the machine during the hire.
14. The legal bits
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under Australian Consumer Law. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect losses (like a missed session or event). This agreement between you and Adelaide Tennis Ball Machine Hire is governed by the laws of South Australia, and if any clause turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stand.
